Brits "building greener"

01 August 2007

A growing awareness of eco-friendly products among UK homeowners is making the nation's properties greener, it has been claimed.

The Ecology Building Society has said that recent months have seen the government's Low Carbon Buildings programme become "inundated with requests" from people eager to install microgeneration technologies such as wind turbines and solar panels.

People involved in new-build properties are particularly likely to be interested in these measures, the building society claimed, as they can be incorporated into the construction at a lower cost than with existing houses.

Marketing manager Jenny Irwin commented: "People are building greener and renovating more houses.

"If money wasn't the main factor, I think everyone would have them [microgeneration products], so it can be a stumbling block."

The Ecology Building Society specialises in homes with ecological benefits in their construction, use of land or style.

A renovation project can be organised with self storage.
