'Wait and see' for full Hips effects

28 March 2008

People moving home who are concerned about the impact of home information packs (Hips) should wait to see the full effect on the market, it has been claimed.

It is still early days for Hips, according to Mike Ockendon, director general of AHIPP, who claimed that it will not be until the summer of this year before valuable statistics are available to measure the success of the packs.

However, Mr Ockendon commented that Hips are actually very useful, stating that they provide vital information on the condition of the house, as well as advice on how to improve energy efficiency among other benefits.

He said: "This is still very early days for packs.

"A transaction takes six or seven months to go through. And we only went finally online with the whole market place on the 14th December. So its still very, very early days and we're starting to see really that it's improving the speed of the conveyancy process."

This follows a Which? report that claimed Hips are not making it easier to buy or sell property.

When buying a new home be sure to invest in a storage system.
