People considering moving home or buying a house for investment purposes may consider a university town, it has been suggested.
Opportunities for making a return on a property are many in university towns, according to BuyAssociation, which has stated that renting out to students can be a good source of revenue.
Paul Collins, property editor of BuyAssociation, explained that this is because there are always students looking for accommodation, meaning that there is a guaranteed clientele.
Mr Collins also emphasised the benefits of the flexibility associated with renting to students, commenting: "You have the advantage that the property is only going to be occupied for nine months of the year.
"You have that summer period where it is going to be empty, so you can do repairs or lease it out further to the tourist trade."
In 2007, Halifax found that 20 university towns in the UK had recorded an increase in house prices of 20 per cent or more over the past year.
People thinking of renting houses out to students should be sure to invest in a good storage system for the property.
