Conservatories 'may add to property's value'

09 April 2008

Homeowners looking to create more space in their homes by adding a conservatory may be able to increase the value of their property.

This statement comes from B&Q, one of the UK's leading DIY and garden centre retailers, which has claimed that most home improvements will "enhance the resale value" of a house.

Some improvements may be more lucrative than others, however, according to a company spokesperson, who suggested that the installation of a new kitchen, bathroom or conservatory will eventually pay for itself in added market value.

She went on to say that a home may be made more appealing by making smaller improvements: "Paint and decorate, replace outdated bathroom suites, replace or update an outdated kitchen … or expose wooden floors … increase natural light and to maximise views of a garden."

Last year, 58 per cent of UK homeowners undertook some form of rennovation, according to the Halifax Home Improvement Survey.

When creating space in the home, be sure to add a good self-storage system in order to house belongings.
