Detached properties 'have increased in value'

15 April 2008

People moving home may be interested to learn that detached properties have increased in value over the past five years.

A Nationwide special feature on detached homes has shown that this form of property accounts for one-fifth of the houses purchased in the UK.

The value of such properties has increased by some 41 per cent in the last five years; however, this falls short of the average house price increase of the other property types, including flats, terraced, semi-detached and bungalows.

When looking for a spacious property, detached homes may be a good option, however.

"Detached houses are, on average, bigger than other property types and, with an average floor area of around 1,542 sq ft (143m²), a third bigger than a typical semi and twice as big as a typical terraced property," the report states.

According to a recent report on March house prices, Nationwide has shown that growth has slowed to its lowest level in 12 years.

When trying to create space in a home, be sure to acquire a storage system to hide away objects throughout the house.
