Modular housing 'more eco-friendly'

28 April 2008

Househunters hoping to move into an environmentally-friendly house may be pleased to hear that modular houses have "superior insulation" compared to other forms of housing.

This is according to Spacebox, a company that specialises in modular housing that is made up of high-grade composite materials.

John Fitzgerald, director of the organisation, claims that in terms of insulation, there are fewer faults, leaks and weak insulation points, and they tend to generate less waste.

"The insulation quality tends to be far superior to anything built on site," he said.

Mr Fitzgerald went on to say that the homes are driven by design, meaning that the householder can have a home that stands out or blends in depending on their requirements.

Yorkon, another modular housebuilding firm, claim that 96 per cent of their projects were delivered on time, compared to a Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors figure that shows that only 63 per cent of traditional houses were completed on schedule.

A good storage system is a necessity in a new home to ensure that it does not become cluttered by the move.
