Gardening dos and don'ts

29 April 2008

When moving home, people should increase the value of their property by improving it's garden, it has been advised.

Gardening expert and presenter of BBC's Gardener's World Joe Swift has highlighted the dos and don'ts when it comes to renovating a garden.

Swift asserts that ponds "are a bit dodgy"; he claims this because they may put buyers off because they could be considered to be high maintenance.

He pointed out that the market is veering towards an emphasis on comfort, suggesting that this may be something to aim for in domestic gardens.

"Try and keep it quite simple, quite classic," he said.

"Keep it well maintained and looking good - invest in a few large plants to give some real impact in there," he advised.

Housing developer George Wimpey recently advised householders to blend indoor colour schemes into the garden with plant pots and accessories.

When making improvements to a home, be sure to have adequate storage to prevent loss and damage.
