FMB: New builds over new settlements
02 May 2008

The Federation of Master Builders (FMB) has called on the government to reform the planning system and allow all areas to have new builds.
Brian Berry, director of external affairs at the Federation of Master Builders (FMB), said that this is more preferable than new settlements, such as eco towns, in the organisation's eyes."What we want is high quality housing in every village and town and that is much more sustainable than building new settlements that are deemed to be eco-towns," Mr Berry said.He questioned how such new settlements could be sustainable "when towns that they are building are completely unsustainable".Last month, a report for the Construction Products Association raised doubts over the government's targets of 240,000 new homes per year build to zero carbon standards by 2016.The FMB was established more than 60 years ago and is the largest trade association in the building industry.Anyone looking to move to a new settlement should ensure they have the required self-storage they may need during the relocation.
