Renovation 'may increase property values'

06 May 2008

Homeowners may be able to increase the value of their property by undertaking a series of renovation projects, it has been claimed.

According to the editor of Which? Money Martyn Hocking, over 50 per cent of Which? members made some kind of improvement to their homes in the last year.

Writing in the Manchester Evening News, Mr Hocking has put forward some suggestions that will also increase the value of the house, including installing a new kitchen.

The expert claims that this could increase a property's value by four per cent by choosing a modern-style suite that suits the house.

Double glazing may be attractive to potential buyers since it reduces noise and cuts bills, and could therefore add 3.75 per cent to the value, while a new bathroom could increase it by two per cent.

In light of the introduction of the energy performance certificates in home information packs, green improvements may also increase appeal. The Energy Saving Trust advises people to invest in loft insulation, which can save up to £110 per year in bills.

When renovating a property be sure to invest in a self-storage system that will cater for all your needs.
