Location 'top priority for home buyers'

UK househunters consider location to be their top priority when looking for a new home, according to new statistics.

Manning Stainton estate agents has highlighted the results of a Home Sale Network survey of its 750 members.

Location was the most important factor when looking for a new property, with 81 per cent of members putting this as the top consideration. Meanwhile, 19 per cent said a garage or parking space was also a top priority.

Standard of decoration, potential for increasing a property's value and having a property in a good state of repair did not feature prominently in the results, however.

Russell Manning of Mannin Stainton commented: "There is a lot of truth in the saying buy the worst house on the best street, rather than the best house on the worst street."

According to Which? Money, renovating a property can increase a house's value. For example, installing double glazing can increase the price by 3.75 per cent, the company estimated.

When buying a new home, investing in a storage system is another important consideration.
