De-cluttering 'helps to sell homes'

13 May 2008

Homeowners looking to move house have been advised to take the time to de-clutter their rooms to make it more appealing to those looking around.

For those wanting a helping hand to sorting out their house, CNNMoney.com recommends hiring a "home stage", to help get rid of clutter and have an important second-opinion to spot mess that you may be immune to.

"A stager will help get rid of clutter, rearrange furniture to create attractive focal points [and] repurpose underused rooms," the website advises.

It adds that makeshift bedrooms can be converted into recreation rooms, while along with de-cluttering, good choices of paint and curtains can make rooms seem larger.

Practical advice website Organize IT has a number of tips and hints to help those looking to improve the saleability of their homes de-clutter.

These include having a compact timescale and having de-clutter tools in place, such as dustcloths, binbags and a sweeping brush.

Be sure to invest in a self-storage system to help de-clutter.
