Househunters 'should choose a suitable mortgage'

14 May 2008

Househunters should be sure to opt for a mortgage product that meets their needs, according to one expert's advice.

Moneyfacts has pointed out that gimmicks employed by some loan providers may not be on the top of priorities for people looking for a suitable product given the gravity of the decision.

Darren Cook, head of mortgages at Moneyfacts commented that although such add-on offers are "few and far between", borrowers should keep in mind the nature of the decision.

"Remember that a mortgage is a massive investment and a massive decision for someone to make. So if you're going to remortgage or take on a new mortgage, [such perks] might not be high on your priority list," he said.

Mr Cook went on to add that people should look at the product in its entirety to ensure that it is suitable for them individually.

Lloyds TSB has recently launched its Airmiles mortgage, in which customers receive 6,000 Airmiles up front and a further 50 for every monthly payment.

When moving home be sure to invest in a storage system that also meets your needs.
