Now is a good time to consider self-building an eco-home as an alternative to buying a new property, according to one company.
Green Moves
UK has claimed that planners are currently looking more favourably on "exceptional sustainable housing projects" compared to regular housing.
Julian Brooks, managing director of Green Moves UK, explained that the market is turning in favour of the buyer in terms of being able to negotiate lower prices on land and property.
He said: "It's a good time to try and get hold of your plot or your old derelict
property to knock it down and rebuild."
Mr Brooks added that a greater number of people are planning on buying an eco-plot or property that they can convert into a green home.
The Ecology Building Society has claimed that its lending nearly doubled in 2007 compared to 2006.
People looking to renovate a property to make it more environmentally-friendly should be sure to invest in a storage system for their re-vamped property.
