UK house prices rise

20 May 2008

House prices in the UK have risen during May, according to one survey.

The Rightmove House Price Index has shown that property prices have risen by 1.2 per cent throughout the month.

Spring sellers have pushed up the national average by selling larger homes and the average asking price of a newly marketed property has reached £242,500 - representing an increase of nearly £3,000.

The report suggested, however, that the mortgage tap had been turned off in April as lenders were looking out for their own interests instead of attempting to improve the housing market.

Miles Shipside, commercial director of Rightmove, commented: "Sales are still happening where sellers are pricing realistically, especially where they are getting similar reductions on the home they are buying."

Meanwhile, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors has forecast that house prices could fall by seven per cent over the next year.

A good storage system is a necessity when moving home to ensure that belongings are kept safe and organised.
