Brits heading to Australia for 'better lifestyle'

27 June 2008

Growing numbers of Brits are coming to believe that Australia may hold for them a "far better overall lifestyle", overseas property experts have stated.

According to figures recently released by RoghtmoveOverseas.co.uk, interest in the country from people looking to emigrate was up by 16 per cent last year alone.

Perhaps somewhat surprisingly, the most popular destination was found to be Perth, though Sydney and Melbourne were close behind.

Commenting on the obvious attractions of a life down under, Rhiannon Davies, director of Shelter Offshore, explained: "The pace of life in Australia is more laid back, the cost of living is more affordable, the work environment is more relaxed and informal, there is an energy and positivity about the nation that seems to be lacking in the UK – and all in all, for many Brits Australia just seems like such a better choice for a far better overall lifestyle."

In addition, a separate study carried out by NatWest found that, on average UK ex-pats earn £67,000, in comparison to the domestic average of £67,000.

Those looking to emigrate for a better life may, however, want to keep a base in the UK and could therefore benefit from secure storage facilities.
