Britain's buy-to-let landlords shouldn't fit out their properties with their best furniture as they are 'business packages' rather than 'showplaces'.
That is the advice of the Residential Landlords Association, who has revealed that, while presentation is important when it comes to attracting tenants, he has witnessed many people putting their possessions at risk by keeping them in their investments.
Alan Ward explained: "Presentation is important in a competitive market it helps the landlord to be able to choose the tenant they want and not to have to take the first tenant to see the property."
He added, however, that "tenants dont want second-hand mixed-style
furniture.
"Don't do a Llewellyn-Bowen or fit it out like your second home it's a business package, not a showplace."
The comments come as landlords are benefitting from rising rents as the
market becomes more competitive, largely due to the increased number of people unable to buy their own place.
Landlords looking to rent out a property could therefore benefit from putting anything valuable into safe storage.
