Brits flocking to Menorca for sun-kissed new life

08 July 2008

The Mediterranean island of Menorca is attracting soaring numbers of Britons looking to settle for a new life in the sun, local property experts have reported.

According to Paul Bradley, spokesperson for the Spanish Property Owners Guild, "today's British invaders" are being given the same warm welcome as was given to the island's most famous resident Lady Jane Hamilton, best known for being the mistress of naval hero Admiral Nelson.

This friendliness, along with the more relaxed style of life and the near-guaranteed good weather, is serving to attract thousands of Brits a year looking for a better work-to-life balance and an escape from the miserable weather at home.

"Menorca is a pretty but flat and windy island. [It offers] many beautiful beaches, intimate coves and also great sailing," Mr Bradley explained.

"The busy capital, Mahon, is an attractive old port and any resort nearby is a safe place to invest, but the other end of the island, at Cuidadela, is far more attractive and peaceful for residents."

Anyone thinking of moving to Menorca or any of the other Balearic Islands may want to keep a base in the UK and so could benefit from safe storage facilities.
