Brits quitting the UK as it offers Europe's worst life quality

17 July 2008

The UK offers the worst quality of life in all of Europe, a new study has concluded.

Coming as thousands of Britons are opting to sell up and head for a new life overseas, figures compiled from across the continent by the price comparison site uSwitch.com found that they are, economically at least, correct to be making such a move.

For while British families earn more than £10,000 above the EU average, they also pay 49 per cent more for gas and 18 per cent more for petrol.

Furthermore, the UK receives 80 per cent less sunshine than Spain, while spending on healthcare and education is also below the continental average.

"We may earn substantially more than our European neighbours but when it comes to quality of life we remain the sick man of Europe," noted the website's Ann Robinson.

"Soaring food prices and inflation, not to mention high property costs, are placing the biggest squeeze on disposable incomes in well over a decade."

Anyone wanting to move to an overseas property could make use of safe storage facilities to make the move easier.
