France now the "best bet" for buying overseas

21 July 2008

France is now becoming a "better bet" than Spain for Britons looking to purchase a second home overseas, foreign property experts have explained.

While Spain currently remains the number one choice for Brits wanting a new life in the sun, with its European neighbours, as well as the United States, vying for second spot.

However, this may soon change as people become attracted to the relaxed way of life and excellent ex-pat communities boasted by the UK's closest international neighbour.

Commenting on the current trends, Laura Sturgess, web services research assistant at Property Finder France, explained.

"With the bottom falling out of Spain and everything, France seems like a better bet at the moment.

"France is becoming the most popular place for second homes for the British and is high on the list for other nationalities because of the weak pound against the Euro. It does seem to be the best place to invest at the moment."

Most people choosing to buy a second home abroad also opt to downsize in the UK, with many therefore in a perfect position to benefit from safe storage accommodation.
