Homeowners urged to insulate their properties

29 July 2008

British homeowners have been advised that there has never been a better time than the present to insulate their properties.

With EDF Energy having announced that it is due to put its fuel bills up by around a fifth, consumers have been urged to take measures aimed at cutting back on overheads in any way possible.

This includes ensuring all windows are kept shut as well as carrying out work to install cavity wall insulation, draught proofing and roof insulation.

Neil Marshall, chief executive of the National Insulation Association (NIA), explained: "Home insulation is the single most effective method of saving money on domestic energy bills – typically cutting around £275 off the annual heating bill.

"With fast-rising consumer costs in many other areas such as food and fuel, why wait a moment longer to put these money-saving measures into place."

Anyone wanting to save money in the long-run by getting their home properly insulated may also want to invest in safe storage solutions while they carry out such work.
