Rent in the suburbs of London is rising markedly as growing numbers of Brits are priced out of the property sector, a new report has revealed.
Mirroring the booming demand seen in major
UK cities over the past few years, the
London Daily News has reported that many would-be buyers are now choosing to rent, with a significant number preferring to do so somewhere quiet rather than in busy urban centres.
Research carried out by the publication found that rents in suburbs such as Southgate, East Finchley, Morden and Oakwood have gone up by as much as 20 per cent over the past year alone, meaning many young people may be forced to move back into the family home and put their possessions into storage until costs come down.
On a more optimistic note, the Financial Times has reported "deep cuts in
London rentals", though the days when young professionals are able to obtain a
mortgage relatively easily still look a long way off.
Anyone hit by rising rents and opting to downsize may want to make use of safe storage solutions.
