In the future, people may find that they are renovating and making changes to their property to make it more environmentally friendly.
This is because, according to the National Energy Foundation (NEF), properties need to use low carbon technology as much as possible to help the environment.
The organisation suggests that installing solar panels is one of the best ways to do this.
Furthermore, people should ensure that their home is well insulated as this can also help to reduce energy consumption and keep carbon levels low.
A spokesperson for the NEF said: "I still firmly believe that every single property that is built in the UK, if it doesn't have solar panels on it [...] then I ask: 'Why?'"
Earlier this year, research undertaken by Tickbox.net and Opinion Matters for npower discovered that 78 per cent of people think renewable energy generation could add value to their home as it will cut the cost of their energy bill.
People developing their property by adding some environmentally friendly features may wish to put their possessions in storage to keep them safe while the work is carried out.
