Many Brits 'changing their minds' about home improvements

23 June 2009

As the credit crunch continues to bite in the UK, it has been revealed that home improvement may be taking a backseat for cash-strapped Brits.

While some may still be eager to don some overalls and indulge in a little DIY, for many, other expenses are coming first.

It has been revealed in a Legal & General survey that 28 per cent people would rather put a stop to their home improvement plans than sacrifice their Sky TV or cable subscription.

Garry Skelton, marketing director at Legal & General's general insurance business, said: "It is clear by the number of people looking to save money across all aspects of their home life that the majority of us are feeling the pinch."

Despite this news, the National Energy Foundation is encouraging UK households to consider investing in green improvements to properties such as solar panels, as they could save money in the long run.

When undertaking home improvements, it may also be a good idea to put some possessions into storage so they are safe and sound while the work is taking place.
