New property prices 'fall in June'

23 June 2009

Now may be the perfect time for people to pack up their belongings and make the move into a new home.

This is because, according to Rightmove, for the first time in five months the price of properties new to the market has gone down.

In June, the average price of a house fresh on the market declined by 0.4 per cent to £226,436.

The company claims that this is because sellers are adjusting their prices so that they meet the demands in different areas of the country.

Commercial director of Rightmove Miles Shipside said: "Perennially popular areas with good schooling are in, while flats in large blocks and terraces requiring major works are out, meaning new sellers are having to adjust prices accordingly."

Meanwhile, the National Association of Estate Agents discovered that in May, the average estate agent made ten property sales – a year-on-year increase of 30 per cent.

With the price of new properties down, people may find they have the spare cash to spend on storage for their belongings to help make the moving process simpler.
