Exterior renovation can "maximise kerb appeal"

24 June 2009

Homeowners need to think about how any changes they make to the exterior of their property may impact upon the appearance of the street, according to one publication.

Homebuilding & Renovating magazine claims that if people want to "maximise the kerb appeal" of their house then they should consider renovations.

However, they must think wisely before making any decisions.

One way to avoid any potential disasters could be to consult an expert if people are unsure about design.

Melanie Griffiths, assistant editor of Homebuilding & Renovating magazine, said: "The inside can be redecorated and is easy to see as a blank canvas by potential future occupiers, but many cannot look beyond a bad exterior."

Earlier this year, AA Personal Loans discovered that 57 per cent of people looking to alter their home wish to do so to improve their living environment, while 32 per cent want to increase its value.

If people are undertaking exterior renovations on their house, putting some precious items in storage could ensure they are safe and sound while the building work takes place.
