Brits 'opting for homemade interiors'

06 January 2010

Brits are giving their property interiors a homemade feel and are increasingly opting to make their own items.

This is according to Julia Goodwin, editor at House Beautiful magazine, who noted that John Lewis recently sold out of their new miniature sewing machines.

"Making or buying cushioned quilts and curtains is back and people are personalising them – they are putting their own braids on, they are putting different looks together," she commented.

Ms Goodwin pointed out that people should not be afraid to experiment and to make their home into something that really reflects their lifestyle and personal interests.

She added that it is an exciting time for the home as many people are staying put at the moment rather than moving.

Recent research published by Aspect Maintenance revealed that 70 per cent of Londoners plan to make improvements to their property in 2010.

Of those polled, 14 per cent indicated that they plan to sell their current home over the coming year.
