The British love affair with neutral tones may soon be over, it has been claimed.
Sally Dernie of Sally Dernie Interior Design, a member of the British Institute of Interior Design, said there has been a definite move away from creams and beige colours to more bold hues.
"The neutral look has been copied and replicated by every property developer and home stager and people no longer want this rather bland 'show home' look," she commented.
People are becoming increasingly keen to express their individuality and personality in their homes.
Ms Dernie noted that colour does not have to be bold. Soft tones can be just effective and are a great option for those who like to take a cautious approach to decorating.
Speaking recently, Julia Goodwin, editor at House Beautiful magazine, said people are currently staying put rather than moving to new properties and are looking for ways to improve their environment.
