It is hoped that homeowners planning to improve their property will not be hampered by government legislation this year.

Government projects will focus away from new builds and target repair and refurbishment, suggested one property expert.

Alex Hawkes, news editor at Construction News, warned that a change of focus regarding infrastructural plans would need some serious consideration.

Ruling out the requirement of a government grant initiative, he said: "A lot of government projects and a lot of private sector projects will move away from new-builds towards repairing their buildings and refurbishing them."

His comments were made following the publication of a proposal made by Cut the VAT to introduce a five per cent reduction, which they suggest it suggests will create 24,000 new construction jobs.
