American property 'should not be seen as an investment'

26 February 2010

British buyers should not consider US property as an investment at the moment, it has been claimed.

Andrew Bartlett, owner of Andrew Bartlett Florida, said there is a great deal of inventory on the market at the moment and said he "can't see how prices are going to necessarily increase very quickly".

He noted that although Brits may come across cheap property in the US, it does not represent a bargain if the area around the house is "falling to pieces and the people haven't cut their grass for three years".

In addition, sterling is still relatively weak against the dollar, making it more expensive than ever to move across the pond, he added.

According to A Place in the Sun, some of the top destinations for British investors hoping to purchase property abroad over the coming year include Spain, France, Portugal and Turkey.
