Get interior design inspiration from nature

13 July 2010

Homeowners planning on giving their house a new look this summer could try taking inspiration from the great outdoors.

This season, looking for decor that has been inspired by the natural world or coastal life is one way to create a fresh look inside, according to Colleen Uncao from HomeSense.

Adopting the look is not about creating a uniformed image but putting together pieces that you like in your property, she explained.

"As long as you have a really great piece that has an interesting shape, an interesting colour, then it works in your room," Ms Uncao stated.

Making small changes, such as introducing cushions covered with bird or floral prints, or adding colourful rugs and decorative jars are also effective ways suggested by the spokeswoman to bring in some colour.

A similar trend was promoted recently by the Seattle Times, which suggested adding fresh plants and flowers to the house for a cheerful look.
