House buyers 'should not stress over price'

13 July 2010

Prospective buyers should not spend too much time stressing over the price of a property, according to one expert.

Although the cost of buying a property is on the decline, those looking to make a change to their address should not get caught up in how much it will cost, Selwyn Lim, director of Mouseprice.com, warned.

He explained that homeowners should not be focusing too much on what is happening in the economy at large and ought to be thinking instead about their own situation.

"They should decide to buy for reasons that make sense to an individual because of an individual's circumstances," Mr Lim said.

In addition, cuts that were announced in the Budget may have an effect on the property market, the expert admitted, as people will have to "tighten their belts" in the future.

Around 78 per cent of homeowners think that property prices will rise in the next six months, according to a poll conducted by the Housing Market Sentiment Survey from property website Zoopla.co.uk.
