Homeowners who are looking to personalise their space are increasingly turning to technological gadgets to make the most of the room, according to Ronnie Whelan, editor of The Essential Kitchen Bathroom Bedroom Magazine.

To provide a simple new design, she suggests using neutral tones with white fittings can create a relaxing space to begin the day and in which to unwind.

But for a more modern take on the wash room, Ms Whelan suggested "mood and task lighting, chromatherapy, mp3 players, televisions that masquerade as mirrors or remote-controlled taps will bring your bathroom up to date."

The trend for more computerised goods in the bathroom seems to be on the rise, with Buster recently reporting that British homeowners are increasingly opting for showers in their houses instead of a traditional bath.
