Redecorating 'could help sell homes'

27 July 2010

Redecorating homes could help add significant value to properties, it has been suggested.

People looking for a way to boost their property prices as the market growth begins to slow have been told to make simple changes, including giving kitchens a refit and putting in central heating installation.

An article on AboutMyArea said that a DIY project as small as a painting job will give a good feeling to prospective buyers.

"Presentation is a vital element in selling a home. A poorly decorated living space can have an instant, negative effect and give the impression that a lot of work - and a lot of money - will be needed to rectify it," homesellers were advised.

Director at the National Home Improvement Council Andrew Leech agreed with this advice, adding that spending money on doing up a property is very valuable.

These suggestions are likely to boost the number of storage facilities in use over the summer, as people look for somewhere to hold their furniture when they get their paint brushes out.
