DIY market 'to improve in next few months'

29 July 2010

A greater number of homeowners will be indulging in DIY projects in the next few months, it has been suggested.

According to Andrew Leech, a director at the National Home Improvement Council, there will be a gradual progression in this area, with more work being carried out once the summer is over.

He also suggested that people are waiting until the new coalition government is settled in and they can be more certain about the country's political and economic stability.

"Then people will be taking a more positive attitude towards their properties and thinking about new kitchens and new bathrooms and hopefully also energy improvements too," Mr Leech said.

He added that some DIY work may be spurred on by people wanting to protect their properties in the event of the bad weather of last winter returning to the UK again at the end of this year.

If he is right, more householders could be investigating the use of self-storage facilities to hold their furniture securely as they carry out renovation work.
