Germany and France look promising for moving abroad

06 August 2010

Homeowners looking to move abroad have been advised that a home in Germany or France could prove a good investment.

The economic growth in Germany is one reason why the country looks promising for prospective buyers in coming years, according to Ed Stansfield, property economist at Capital Economics.

"Some of the Nordic [areas] and France are the markets that would stand out in terms of the economic prospects, the pricing, the size and liquidity arguments," Mr Stansfield added.

However, he warned that buying a home in a country such as Greece, Spain or Portugal may not benefit those looking to see a growth on the value of their property, due to the austerity measures that are predicted to be imposed by the countries' governments.

Recent findings from the HSBC Global Investment Perspective report backed up his view, while also noting that the Asia Pacific region was growing, with eastern Europe looked uncertain.
