De-cluttering essential to attract house buyers

16 August 2010

Homeowners looking to sell their property need to de-clutter to attract prospective buyers, according to one writer.

When trying to sell her property, Cathy Wood wrote in the American publication Times Daily that she was told by her estate agent that reducing the amount of clutter she had was essential.

"When you start looking at your house through the eyes of folks who want to replace your stuff with their stuff, you realise you have to show them that their stuff will fit," Ms Wood said.

She explained that in order to clear her home, both she and her partner had to be ruthless in how they decided what to remove, with anything that they had not used in months or forgotten they had being taken away.

If being drastic with de-cluttering sounds daunting, The Stir blog recently suggested removing one item per day to gradually reduce the number of unwanted and disused items.
