London 'popular with foreign buyers'

18 August 2010

Foreign investors looking to purchase a property abroad will frequently turn to the UK first, according to one expert.

Ed Mead, director at Douglas & Gordon, said that many overseas buyers see the capital as being a stable place to make an investment, especially if they live in a country where the economy is more volatile.

"London is always a safe haven, not just in terms of its economy and its position in the world," Mr Mead explained.

He added that the political stability of the UK helps to make London an attractive option to people investing in property from overseas, continuing that it is often the first place in the world people will think of when they look to make an investment in a foreign property market.

Investors that are seeking to buy in the prime mortgage market may find that they are getting a better deal than a year ago, as during July properties in this bracket dropped in price by 0.5 per cent for the first time since March 2009.
