US property 'market may entice Brits'

25 August 2010

The current state of the American housing market could encourage British buyers to take a step onto the property ladder abroad.

At present there are reports of the housing market in the States slumping, with the National Association of Realtors reporting that existing home sales dropped by 27.2 per cent in July, falling 25.5 per cent below the figures recorded for the same month in 2009.

As a result of this, Annette Reeve, director of Mayfair International Realty, said many British buyers who have long thought of buying a home in America will see this as the time to act.

She explained the view of some vendors, stating: "If a Brit comes in and says: 'Here's my money. Take it or leave it', maybe they will get a good buy and maybe the sellers will take a bit of a drop."

However, she warned that there has not been a return to the time of ambitious pricing.
