People with extra space at home could find they can rent out a room if they de-clutter their space.
According to moneysaving expert Lea Beven, it can be simple to make some extra cash by taking on a lodger, but first the space needs to be cleared.
She explained that many people ask her about renting out a room and that as some areas can charge up to £450 a month rent, it could be very lucrative.
Her first tip was for prospective landlords to de-clutter the room as too many personal belongings could intimidate the new lodger.
In addition, clearing the room is important to make it feel like they can slip right in to the family and they will not feel in the way.
Some cupboard space in the kitchen could be cleared in advance of the new lodger moving in, which can make them feel more welcome in the property.
Homeowners who are considering carrying out repairs to a property were recently advised by Canada.com to de-clutter it first to make the job easier.
