Detached property values 'increase by the day'

01 September 2010

The cost of a detached property in the UK has risen by an average of £91 each day, according to Halifax.

This increase has been the fastest rise in prices seen on any type of home, with the average detached family home being worth £299,295 in the second quarter of 2010, up 13 per cent on the £266,060 recorded in same quarter of 2009.

By comparison, the average property price recorded in the Halifax Property Type Review for all other residential dwellings rose between eight and nine per cent in the same time frame.

Commenting on the increasing values of detached homes, Suren Thiru, housing economist with the institution, said: "Such properties are likely to have benefited from greater demand from those buyer groups currently most able to enter the housing market."

This news follows on from the report by FirstRungNow.com that getting on the property ladder is becoming easier for first-time buyers as the size of the deposit needed is getting smaller.
