Eco-friendly property demand 'expected to rise'

11 October 2010

Homeowners are increasingly looking for properties that offer environmentally-friendly solutions.

According to Anwar Harland-Khan, chief executive of Sustain Worldwide, there is likely to be an increase in the market as more people begin to become knowledgeable about the benefits green houses have to the environment.

He noted that there has already been an rise noted by his organisation for homes with green credentials.

Mr Harland-Khan explained: "The combination of legislation, increasing fuel costs and a more educated house buyer, means that the demand for green homes will undoubtedly increase."

The housing expert added that this was likely to create an upper-tier in the housing market, which would come at a premium to prospective buyers.

While the building industry is behind the need for such developments, the Knight Frank Green Homes 2010 report suggested that more guidance was needed from the government to clarify what exactly was meant by a zero-carbon home.
