Those who are planning to declutter their homes should make the most of their kitchen floors and choose materials that will show this room off to its full potential, an expert has advised.
Tim Jasper, kitchen designer at jasperco.co.uk, has highlighted the fact that natural stone is one of the most popular decisions at the moment due to its hardiness, attractive appearance and the low level of maintenance it requires.
He also suggested that recently decluttered rooms could benefit from the use of tiles, which he describes as "cheap", bulletproof and still quite attractive.
Mr Jasper suggested that those looking for the most pleasant texture could consider wooden flooring, although he warned that this comes with the downside of the material's less hard-wearing nature.
He said: "I suggest that the same floor finish is used throughout the kitchen and any adjacent dining or living areas, perhaps using rugs to soften these spaces, rather than using a combination of finishes."
Anyone replacing their kitchen floor could hire a self storage unit to help keep their kitchenware out of the way while it is being fitted.
Jo Hamilton, an interior designer, recently claimed that the trend towards a British aesthetic in terms of interior design will continue long into 2012 and should be explored by those planning improvements to their homes.
