People looking for a change of scenery might want to consider Germany, which is said to have a "lively rental market".
Matthew Littlecott, founder of ProVenture Property, explained that a healthy rental market in Germany was a big draw in expanding their business in the European country.
He said that in certain places in Germany – like, for example, Frankfurt, Munich and Hamburg – there are extremely low owner occupation levels. In some cities and towns, around 50 per cent of people rent.
"When you look to places like Berlin and other cities in the east in particular, owner occupation can be as low as 15 per cent," said Mr Littlecott.
"In the UK, your typical market would be migrant workers and students - people who can't afford a deposit on the house - because a lot of folks have aspirations to buy in this country. Whereas in Germany, lawyers, doctors - the whole range of people would be tenants."
He added that in Germany, people tended to stay longer in their apartments, which was a big bonus.
People looking to invest in property overseas are advised to consider using a self storage unit for belongings that don't need to be moved abroad straight away.
