HBF: Government's housing move is sensible

03 February 2012

The government's NewBuy Guarantee scheme, which is open to all people, has been described as being "very sensible".

Steve Turner, head of communications at the House Builders Federation (HBF), explained that a lot of people at present are unable to "scale up their homes", making this scheme an attractive option.

"It is a very positive move by the government," he said.

"People being unable to get mortgages is the biggest constraint on house sales and on house building."
Mr Turner was also encouraged to see that the government has at last found enough land to build 80,000 new homes.

"After mortgage availability, a lack of viable and developable land is the next main constraint," he said.

That the government has recognised this and actively worked with the industry to find land for developments is good, Mr Turner concluded.

A self storage unit is ideal for people who have too many things in their homes.
