Selling the benefits of self-storage - Safestore first at Ideal Home Show

02 March 2006

One in 11 Americans do it! And now one in 170 in the UK do it! And that number’s fast increasing. Self storage is tackling the problems of lack of storage in new homes and offices across the UK. For the first time the UK market leader, Safestore, will be creating a typical 50 sq ft (4.65 m²) self storage unit (including CCTV!) on a stand at the Ideal Home Show in London this month; as well as giving away a whole year’s free storage.

Enhanced by the growing number of TV programmes such as House Doctor telling us to de-clutter and organise ourselves, what was a USA phenomenon, is on the increase in the UK and becoming more widely accepted as a low cost solution. Substantial growth in self-storage has taken place with average growth rates of around 25-30% pa and a total market estimated to be worth £280 million last year.

Jonas Witt, Safestore’s Marketing Manager commented: “For the first time at a consumer show we will be educating people how simple and secure self storage is and how it solves many problems - whether you’re moving house; working from home or just need to re-gain space at home or work. Visitors to the stand will be enticed by a chance to win a whole year’s free storage.”
