Safestore Takes Gold!

Safestore Awarded with Gold Accreditation

At Safestore, we believe that happy staff deliver the best service to customers and accordingly we have always taken great care to support our staff and help them to develop professionally. We are therefore really proud to announce that we have just been awarded a Gold Accreditation under the Investors in People scheme, placing us in the top 1% of the 14,000 companies that take part across 75 countries! We couldn’t be more pleased to have had independent recognition of the positive way in which we treat and manage our staff.

Commenting on the award, Frederic Vecchioli, Safestore’s CEO, said:

The Investors in People Standard

The Investors in People Standard is an independent assessment programme; every three years, assessors visit a workplace and determine to what extent an employer is investing in and developing their team members. They speak to staff and gain valuable insights from employees about what it’s actually like to work for a particular organisation; they also review policies and see whether those policies are put into effect consistently.

Where staff are well-trained and supported, and where their talents and skills are used to best effect, an accreditation may be given. The assessors look for inclusive, productive and sustainable workplaces with good practices that are upheld and promoted throughout the organisation, from upper management right down to the ‘factory floor’. We have taken part in the Investors in People scheme since 2002, when we were first accredited, and have retained our accredited status ever since. In 2015, we were awarded a Bronze Accreditation in recognition of our continued good reputation for leading and developing our people. Our Gold Accreditation this year shows that we have continued to improve as employers and we are thrilled to have been recognised as providing a happy, healthy working environment for all of our staff.

The premise behind the Standard is one that we at Safestore hold dear: that individuals perform best when they are well-managed, well-led and content. In turn, happy employees create a positive atmosphere across the entire organisation, which is something that customers pick up on when visiting our stores or contacting us by phone or email. To be given the Gold Standard is therefore really gratifying!
 

Working at Safestore

We are really proud of our staff development programmes. From our extensive induction programme to our Store Management Development scheme, all of our employees are helped to be the very best they can be. We aim to develop our staff to be both productive and fulfilled, and invest an impressive 25,000 hours in our people’s training, which includes online learning modules as well as face-to-face courses.
 

Induction Training

All of our staff are provided with a structured induction programme that spans 13 weeks and includes regular feedback sessions. We believe that by giving new employees confidence in their roles they will be more likely to stay with us and go on to even bigger and better roles in our organisation as they progress. Further training is then provided as and when required to help our staff develop professionally; specific training such as health and safety and forklift licences may be provided if relevant to an employee’s role. Line managers are tasked with providing performance reviews and coaching to further improve the performance of our staff.
 

Store Management Development


We are a growing company - we have recently acquired Alligator Storage and are always looking to expand our business to provide high quality yet affordable self storage to customers across the UK. With new stores come new management positions and we are keen to develop existing staff who may wish to take up those roles, as well as searching for talent from external sources. Our Store Management Development programme is aimed at those colleagues who wish to move up within the organisation and provides the skills and education required - as well as instilling the Safestore ethos (of working hard to provide customers with a top-rate service) within our future managers.
