How we protect your storage unit
Our sites are covered by 24 hour recorded CCTV and fitted with intruder alarms to make sure your belongings are as safe as possible.
Your indvidual access to the site varies across our stores:
- Private security application so you can use your phone to access the facility (Noke).
- PIN access provided by the store when moving into your unit.
- Key Fob access - RFID encrypted key to get into your chosen storage location.
You will be the only keyholder for your unit and so your belongings will be kept secure and private. If it would be more convenient for you to allow family or friends to access the contents of your unit, you could opt to use a combination padlock instead.
Can I access my Safestore unit 24 hours a day?
We have the largest number of self storage facilities across the UK. At all of our sites, you can visit your self storage unit 7 days a week during our usual opening hours. Most of our stores offer extended access hours upon request - so speak to our team at your chosen location.
Secure storage you can get to when you need it
Storage can give you extra space for seasonal clothes, household items, retail stock and business equipment. Your belongings are kept in a clean, dry room at an ambient temperature. Visit your room during the store’s opening hours to add or collect items. If you later need more or less space, you have the option to change room size, subject to availability.

Staffed receptions for deliveries and assistance
Our receptions are staffed during opening hours 7 days a week providing added security and peace of mind and making it easy for you to find help to access your self storage unit if needed. Our team will even accept deliveries for you and keep them safe until you can come and collect them or store them in your unit.
Help to access self storage
If you lose your keys as the sole key-holder , all is not lost – our staff will be able to help you to access your belongings. After confirming your identity, we can remove the lock from your storage room. You will need a new lock before securing the room again, so we recommend this option only when other ways of gaining access have been ruled out.
We provide trolleys free of charge to our customers, and trained staff who will be happy to load or unload your belongings with pallet trucks. DHL’s fast and reliable worldwide delivery service is available at all of our stores. If you need to use this service, all packaging and tracking is included in the price.
Safestore site access across the UK
The majority of our facilities are conveniently located close to motorways and so are easy to find and access via road. Many of our sites offer free onsite parking for customers, whilst others offer parking spaces for rent at very reasonable prices.
If you have a lot of belongings to load or unload, many of our stores have drive-up units – our loading bays make accessing your self storage unit easier, especially in bad weather! See accessing your storage unit for a walkthrough of what this could look like for you.
Access to self storage for customers with a disability
If you have a disability and need additional assistance to access your self storage unit, our staff will be happy to assist. Our sites are all accessible by wheelchair and have disabled toilets available for our customers. Every Safestore store has allocated disabled parking with ample space to allow you to load or unload a wheelchair, and these are located as close to the entrance as possible.
The corridors are wide (1200mm+) and usually concreted to allow smooth access. Most of the doors to the self storage units are wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair (900mm+) but not all are, so please advise us if you need a unit with a wider door and we will do our best to organise that for you.
If you would have difficulty accessing storage on an upper floor, please tell us and we will try to find you a ground-floor storage unit if there is one available. Alternatively, our lifts are wide enough for wheelchair access.

Access to multiple self storage sites
If you run an online shop or sell on a marketplace, you can have deliveries sent to your store. If your business has several branches, it may be more convenient for you to store stock or equipment at multiple Safestore sites.
We offer a multi site account service that will allow you to choose and book space in several sites without needing to do everything separately; one invoice will be created and a dedicated account manager will coordinate all of your requirements to find you the right storage at the best price.
Protecting what you store
Our security measures will reduce the risk of loss when you store with us. In the unlikely event items are damaged or stolen, your goods will need to be insured before you book. Make sure you declare the full replacement value of your belongings. Cover can be reduced if the declared value is lower than the real value.
