Hints and Tips for Self Storage
Good packing and organisation can make a big difference to your storage experience. We've put together some straightforward advice to help you pack, store and organise your items effectively. Protect your belongings, (household items, business stock etc) and maximise space and make it easier to find what you need when you visit your unit.
Ask for Help
Packing and moving can be overwhelming, but a little help can go a long way. Our friendly store teams are self storage experts and can advise you on how to pack efficiently and minimise the space you need to save you both time and money.
Label Your Boxes
Keep your belongings organised by labelling each box with its contents. Use a marker pen to label one side of the box clearly so it’s visible even when stacked. This will save time when you’re unpacking.
Pack Heavy Items Separately
Books, papers, and other heavy items can add up quickly. Pack these in smaller boxes to make lifting safer and easier, and avoid straining yourself.
Use Strong Packaging
Investing in sturdy boxes and materials will help protect your items and allow you to stack boxes securely. This maximises your storage space and ensures your belongings stay safe.
Fill Boxes Fully
Partially filled boxes can collapse or tip when stacked. Aim to fill your boxes to capacity while balancing the weight. Ssometimes it’s better to have more smaller boxes than fewer large, heavy ones.
Plan Your Storage Layout
Place items you’ll need access to at the front of your unit, and create pathways for easy movement. Consider shelving or stacking to make full use of the height of your unit.
Protect Fragile Items
Wrap delicate items in bubble wrap or packing paper, and use padding to prevent movement during storage. Label these boxes as fragile to handle them with care.
Dismantle Furniture
Take apart larger furniture like beds or tables to save space. Keep screws and fittings in labelled bags and attach them to the corresponding furniture to avoid losing anything.
