Packing Tips
Make packing easier and protect your belongings while they’re in storage by following these expert packing tips:
1. Prepare a Portable Packing Kit
Keep essential items handy by putting together a portable packing kit. Include a marker pen, parcel tape, labels, and scissors. This will save time and help you stay organised.
2. Stock Up on Boxes
Ensure you have enough boxes in various sizes. This allows you to pack efficiently and keep your belongings safe during transit and storage.
3. Protect Fragile Items
Use protective wrap for delicate belongings to prevent scratches, dents, or breakages. For plates, stack them on their sides and wrap them individually with acid-free tissue paper.
4. Prepare Appliances Before Storage
Drain freezers, washing machines, and refrigerators at least 2 days before storage. Store these items with the doors wedged open to prevent odours and moisture buildup.
5. Avoid Plastic Bags for Clothes
Always pack bedding or clothes in boxes to prevent moisture damage caused by sweating inside plastic bags. For added protection, place a moisture absorber inside the box.
6. Protect Furniture
Chair legs and furniture corners are easy to protect but expensive to repair. Use corrugated card or similar materials to keep them safe.
7. Use Wardrobe Boxes
Pack hanging clothes in wardrobe boxes to help them retain their shape and stay crease-free during storage.
8. Clean Tools and Equipment
Thoroughly clean all outdoor tools and equipment before storing them to prevent dirt, rust, or damage while in storage.
9. Don’t Pack Essentials
Set aside essentials like loo roll, mugs, milk, tea, coffee, and the kettle to keep them easily accessible. You’ll thank yourself on moving day!
