You’ve probably noticed there has been a distinct drop in temperature this week. It’s as though we’ve gone from a delayed summer strait to winter, skipping fall all together. One colleague mentioned that it was 3 degrees when she left for work this morning.
Many of the tabloids are predicting a cold winter ahead. Dr Todd Crawford, chief meteorologist at The Weather Company, said: “
We expect the coldest winter in the UK since 2012-13.”
Imagine sleeping rough when the temperature hovers or drops below freezing. According to Streets of London; 8000 people did just that on London’s streets during 2016-2017.
This is why we’re proud to be supporting
Wrap Up London for the 7
th year. Wrap Up London is a coat drive coordinated by the volunteer-led charity, Hands On London, that aims to collect over 18,000 coats for the homeless, elderly, refugees, children living in poverty and people fleeing domestic violence.
Last year 850 people gave their time to collect nearly 23,000 coats which were distribute to over a 100 charities across Greater London.
The coats not only offer a bit of warmth but also encourages vulnerable Londoners to connect with local charities and services.
‘The coats delivered to our day centre were perfect! We had lots of new homeless people coming to us for assistance and we were so pleased to have been able to help 14 people off the streets and back into accommodation in less than two weeks’. Mark Palframan, West London Day Centre.
Last Year
Human Appeal launched Wrap Up in Manchester and this year will be launching in
Birmingham and Glasgow as well.
It’s great to see that the campaign has grown in terms of donations, volunteers and locations but it also highlights that homelessness is on the rise and is a national crisis. So,
please do go through your wardrobe to see if you have any good quality coats that you can donate. There is an emphasis on men’s coats again this year.
Donating warm clothes will not only help save lives, it will also give people much needed kindness they deserve.
There will be collections at Tube Stations on the 13
th-15
th of November from 7am-11am at Canary Wharf, Kings Cross, Liverpool Street, London Bridge, Victoria and Waterloo.
Outside of those time, we will accepting donations on behalf of the charities from the
13th-24th of November in
London,
Manchester,
Birmingham and
Glasgow. A list of our participating Safestore locations are listed below.
Thanking you in advance for your support.
